FAQs

  • Where are Arctic Quest based?

We are at Croft Farm, two miles North of Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire.  For GPS, the postcode is GL20 7EE.  Click here for maps and directions.

  • What time can I arrive?

The tipi and herder’s hut are usually ready by 3pm.  If you arrive before 3pm there is a possibility that the accommodation and camp area may not be ready. You are expected to vacate the tipi by 11am unless on a ride.

  • Where do we meet?

We will meet you in the main car park at the arranged time, by reception and the cafe.

  • What happens if I’m late or arriving in the evening?

We don’t live on site and will normally have the dogs with us, which means we cannot wait for too long if you are running late. We can arrange a "self check-in" for late or evening arrivals. We will give you instructions of how to do this if required.

  • What do I need to bring with me?

The tipi and herder’s hut are both equipped with the following:

  • Bedding (see “do you provide bedding?”, below).
  • BBQ frying pan and saucepans
  • Utensils, knives, bottle/tin opener, small chopping board, salt & pepper, tea, coffee and hot chocolate
  • Crockery and cutlery
  • Mugs, cups, drinking Jug
  • Washing up bowl, T-towel, washing up pad and washing up liquid
  • 1 bag of fuel for fire
  • CO2/ smoke alarm
  • Fire extinguisher/ blanker
  • Cool box with ice pack
  • Water
  • First Aid kit
  • Kettle
  • Wood burner

You will need to bring your own towels, wash kit and food.

Upon arrival at the camp, we advise that you check that no item(s) are missing or damaged.  If they are, please report this straight away so we can provide a replacement.  Failure to do so may result in you being charged for said items.

  • What about fuel for the fire?

We use recycled sawdust briquettes, which give off the lowest CO2 emissions from any heat source. We have found these give off the least amount of smoke and burn hotter than wood or coal, meaning you use less. We provide one bag included in your stay, but charge £10 for extra bags.

  • Do you provide bedding?

All bedding is provided for bookings of 5 or less people. We use duvets and blankets, but if you think you will be cold then please pack warm pyjamas. If you have booked a winter stay then we use British Army arctic sleeping bags (good to work in -30) and also supply hoods and woolen sleep socks. We recommend thermals for sleeping in winter. We use a wood burner in winter inside the tipi for heat, which you can also cook over.

The tipi can be set up for 2 – 10 people, but for bookings of 6 or more, there will be no internal fire, bedding or beds. You will need to bring sleeping bags and camping mats.

  • What are the cooking arrangements?

If your husky experience includes the mushers meal, then it’s one meal less for you to make.  Apart from this, we recommend that you bring barbecue style food and drinks. We provide water and a kettle is provided to boil it over the fire.

Cooking can be done either inside or outside the tipi over campfires and we provide saucepans and frying pans for meals. If you don’t want the hassle of bringing your own food we can provide cheese and meat fondues or trout cooking meals.  All come complete with accompaniments or you may just fancy a chocolate fondue over the fire in the evening. These must be booked in advance.

  • How about washing facilities?

There is a camp toilet on site with toilet paper and further toilets and showers in the main block on the campsite.  The main facilities have a keycard entry system, for which we will take a £5 deposit, returnable when you hand the card back to us.

  • What other facilities are there on the site?

There is a bar and cafe in the main car park and water sport activities are available to book in reception located there as well.

  • Can we bring our own dog?

We do allow well-behaved pets, but not whilst the team are in camp.  Dogs must be kept on lead, but there is an off lead field when you drive onto site.

  • Does Artic Quest’s “green commitment” affect us?

As part of our Green Commitment, we would ask that you separate your rubbish into the recycling containers provided.
